I’m Craig Gamble Pugh, and I’m standing to be the Labour Party candidate who will win back Penistone and Stocksbridge- whenever the General Election comes.

Why I’m running

I’m Craig Gamble Pugh, I’m a Labour councillor in Ecclesfield West, part of Penistone and Stocksbridge, and I’m standing to be your candidate to win back our constituency for Labour.

Penistone and Stocksbridge has given me everything. I fell in love here, I got married here and raised a family here. But 12 years of Tory rule has let our area down. Not only with Johnson’s lies but with cuts to public services – a lifeline we depend on.

That’s we’re building a campaign to unseat Miriam Cates. We need a fresh start, under a Labour government that values honesty, integrity and respect.

A Labour activist for 20+ years
Always winning and fighting for you

I‘ve lived in the Constituency for many years, and in Sheffield all my adult life.

My entire working life has been in Sheffield and South Yorkshire. I’m a councillor in Ecclesfield, was a community worker in Stocksbridge and Dodworth; studied, worked and got married at Northern College. This is my home, and always will be. I’ll work alongside local members, community groups and residents. I’ll be visible in our local shops, parks, high streets and events.

When Sheffield’s NHS walk in centre was threatened, I campaigned to keep it open, and we won.

As a City Council cabinet member, I launched the city’s Green strategy.

I’m a tried and tested campaigner, winning for Labour against the odds.

What I’m standing for:

📍 An active representative

I believe that people in Penistone & Stocksbridge deserve a public servant who has the skills and experience to fight for them. If selected, I will act as a shadow MP from day one, holding regular surgeries, representing constituents, campaigning on the issues that matter to people.

🌹 A winning, local campaign

Our campaigning needs to be rooted locally, listening to the people we wish to represent. I’ll immerse myself in local community campaigns, focusing on local issues that our voters care about so voters know we’re on their side

🌱 Green New Deal

As Sheffield’s Cabinet lead, I introduced a transformative Green City Strategy, and spent 4 years as co-chair of South Yorkshire Climate Alliance. As MP I would support a Green New Deal consisting of public ownership of energy, massive investments in renewables, and a mass home insulation programme.

On my recent family New Year Walk it was so nice to see the new stretch of Whitley Lane. Now reopen after extensive engineering works to reconstruct a collapsed section, there's also been lots of work to improve flood protection. I've been chasing for this for ages along with our MP Marie Tidball.I also noted some debris blocking the recently improved culvert so have reported this. ... See MoreSee Less

Great that there is progress on repairs to the collapsed section of Whitley Lane.Back in October, I was contacted by a constituent about Whitley Lane in Ecclesfield, which had been closed for almost 9 months. The closure was having a negative impact on local businesses and residents. After meeting the constituent at one of my local surgeries, I worked alongside Councillor Craig Gamble Pugh to press Sheffield City Council and Amey, the contractors responsible for the repairs, for urgent action. The closure was due to a collapsed retaining wall, and delays in ground investigations had stalled progress. However, following our intervention, Amey shared their programme of works, with repairs starting on 25th November and have been reassured that this is coming towards completion, weather permitting.Amey has now updated the traffic management plan to improve signage, ensuring clearer access to Whitley Hall Hotel, which I know has been a key concern for residents and visitors. I want to thank Craig and everyone involved for their hard work in helping to move this forward, and I will continue to monitor progress to ensure the work is completed on time.If you have a concern I can help with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at marie.tidball.casework@parliament.uk. ...
